Thank you Pops for helping me to see the light. Though you may not have always been aware of it, you stood in the gap for the father I never got the opportunity to meet. Your beaming smile on my graduation day, your speech on my wedding day and your reassuring smile in the audience, as we celebrated our son preparing to enter into his teen years, were the signs of approval I craved from my very own absent father. You stood in the gap and my heart received the healing it longed for.

You stood in the gap, alongside your wonderful wife (Ella):

  • Through the work you've done as a youth worker in the days of my youth;

  • With the time you've taken to give advice when I was searching for answers;

  • When you chauffeured me to the airport as I travelled to Jamaica for my work placement (giving me the opportunity to spend a longer time with my mother and baby sister before leaving them for a whole year);

  • When you attended my graduation ceremony; and

  • When you spoke on my behalf on the day I married the man of my dreams.

Most recently, you stood in the gap by honouring us with your presence, as we celebrated our son's musical talent in welcoming his teen years. Thank you for being there at the finish line each time I crossed over. If only for a day, each time you graced me with your presence at those events, I felt like a daughter. You represented consistency in my life and I know that I can always turn to you for advice when needed. You will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you!

For each day of your life I wish you a Happy Father's Day!

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”’

(Numbers 6:24-26)

If Only For A Day...

Honouring The Men In My World

'If only for a day' was inspired by my maternal Grandfather (Wilmot Augustus Peddie, Nov 1919 - July 1995) the first man who stood in the gap of a father. This page honours the men who filled the gap of a father in my life. If only for a day, they made me feel special (like a daughter). There are many ways to say thank you and this is one of mine.

Paul [Pablo] Reid

Most of the pictures used on 'Marriage & Parenting' as well as 'Thank You Family' were taken by the man who has been standing in the gap for this fatherless child since seventeen years old.

Without the man behind the camera, Mr Paul [Pablo] Reid, I possibly would not be celebrating 'Father's Day' each year. Therefore, it is fitting to have a piece on this page to honour him:
