You are responsible for your actions / you have no excuse

Josiah demonstrates to us today that we are accountable to God for our actions; he did not use the excuse that he had little or no Godly heritage not to do right and, so that it was okay for him to use the throne of God to do evil like his fore parents. Many people today justify their actions today for many deeds they do by saying that it is what they saw their parents doing and heard their parents saying they are repeating. It is said that nothing in life change except the players, hence the cycle continues. Josiah demonstrates what was said in Ezekiel 18:4b about the soul that sinned shall surely die. He did not say furthermore I am a child so it is ok for me to do things that do not please God. He could have justified his actions if he had done wrong by saying because I am a child I do not know better. He chooses to walk the path of righteousness and please the true and living God.

                                   Josiah’s work
Josiah was instrumental in the rebuilding of God’s Temple (2nd
King22: 3-6). He did not just appoint men to oversee the works on the temple but he also called Hilkiah the high priest to give account for the money/ dues and collection that the door keepers collected. He ensures that the money received was used for the purpose it was collected for. He ensures that the people who dedicated their time and energy to work on the temple of God were paid to do so. Josiah demonstrate that we are all stewards of God and that we will be accountable to him in ensuring that the work he has given us to do, to get it done and not just delegate it to other people.

Josiah seeks the Lord (2nd Kings 22:11-13)

When Josiah was made aware of the book of the law he tore his clothes because it finally hit him of the magnitude of the evil that his father and grandfather did when they were kings of Judah. Josiah also demonstrates that when we are aware of sins in our lives me must humble ourselves in the sight of God and seek his face for forgiveness of the things that we have done wrong. Josiah did not just ask for his own forgiveness but for the people’s forgiveness as well. In doing so he has displayed selflessness because he was not thinking of himself only.

 Josiah’s final works throughout Judah

Josiah was not just instrumental in the rebuilding of the temple but he was effective in ridding the temple of each and every piece of work that defile the temple of God. Every idols and things associated with idol worship was destroyed throughout the land of Judah (2nd Kings23). The works that Josiah performed in Judah definitely proves that he was a child of promise and that he was a world changer when in verse 17 the men of the city told Josiah of a prophecy made a long time ago about the works he is now performing in the country. So God had raised him up to fulfill this prophecy irrespective of the fact that he did not have a Godly heritage. Parents, God gave you children to fulfill his purpose, children you were born to fulfill God’s purpose. Amen
