Ministering Through Songs “Lord, I love to sing Your praises" What does it mean to sing His praises? Does it simply mean to stretch my larynx and sing songs about Him or to Him? No! If that was all, I’d be very happy. I sing in the showers, when I’m cooking, cleaning, washing the dishes, even when I’m walking on the streets I’m singing. Then I do it all over again when I join with the saints. If that was all it took, I guess that would make me a champion at praising. Our praise is to bring glory and honour unto God. So my daily walk should reflect my Master’s glory. It is not about repeating familiar phrases or clichés. A clean vessel brings honour to God. See article: “Have You Reclaimed Your Royal Status?” for an in-depth look at singing His praises. My Heart should be clean and reflect that of my Master. An impure heart does not honour God. Therefore, “Whatsoever things are good…think on these things" If I have good thoughts, my hands will do good…my feet will hasten to do good…my mouth will open to speak words of wisdom. I will dress modestly, thinking of my fellow neighbour and not wanting to be a stumbling block. A heart that is pure brings honour to God and keeps me operating in His will. This is not just when I fellowship with the saints but while I’m at school, work, in my social circle, at home…wherever I go. When I testify/share with my fellowship, my neighbour, family or friends, I am praising God. “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name” (Hebrews 13:15, KJV). A testimony is telling of His goodness in my life – How God got me through a particular situation/ struggle. What He did to get me through that situation? How He is keeping me from going back where I’m coming from? The information becomes instruction for someone else. Others who were praying for me to get out of that situation begin to give God thanks for answered prayers. The Scripture, shared as part of my testimony, may bring confirmation to someone or may begin the process of washing that individual clean—as a process of grieving and healing begins. It is therefore very important to remain in His love so that our lives can be a testimony of His love and His grace. That’s how we sing His praises. Our life should therefore, be a song of praise unto God.
